Civil Air Patrol Cadet Field Day

Wow, what a fantastic day. We had about 16 club members plus an equal number of cadets and their family members, all of whom enjoyed a wonderful day. We started with a brief introduction, followed by safety brief by our own Dr Rich Margules. Mike Samsen gave a thorough explanation of the magic of how planes fly. Mike & Noel gave a demonstration of how the electronics of an RC plane work. Chris Vargo talked about the new Delta rocket and how local Connecticut businesses support the Aerospace industry. Several Club members put on a mini air show. As always, the flight simulator was a big hit, but the crowning jewel of the day was the buddy box flying, provided by Cliff, Chris, Vinnie, Bob, Mike & myself. As usual, the Cadet squadron provided a fantastic lunch for everybody. We also had a local newspaper reporter stop by. She stayed for over 2 hrs, which gave us the opportunity to provide a lot of good information about our club and the Civil Air Patrol Cadets. She thoroughly enjoyed our hospitality, stayed for lunch and Chris Vargo had her fly his Cub on the buddy box. At the end we gave out assorted stickers, aviation magazines, books and small gliders to the Cadets.

What a fantastic day, and thanks to Pat Napolitano for coordinating with the Cadets and all that came out to make it such a success.

Thanks, Bill Josiger
